Who won the 2010 Winter Olympics? Canada!

One year ago this week, Vancouver hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics. In case you’ve forgotten the details, allow me to remind you: Canada won. As in, clinched first place overall.

Don’t believe me? See for yourself:

While the IOC doesn’t promote an official ranking, the default convention it uses is “gold first”, as above. Consequently, most of the world uses this ranking.

Controversially, the US uses total medals, at least when it makes the country’s performance look better. For some reason, Canadian media outlets have followed suit.

But that’s nonsense. Forget about consolation prizes. Canada was undefeated in 14 events, more than any other country ever. As far as I’m concerned, Canada won the 2010 Winter Olympics and that’s all there is to it.
